The Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation is pleased to provide our popular after school Learning Club “Follow the Dream”. The program is funded through the generous support of BHP and supported by Baler Primary School.
Follow the Dream provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from Year 1 to 6 with after school literacy and numeracy support and other enrichment activities, as well as fun extension activities across learning areas in a safe and positive environment. The program helps students develop skills and understanding, contributes to building good study habits and encourages positive attitudes to school and learning.
Students get the opportunity to work in small groups with their Program Coordinator and skilled tutors (teachers or teacher assistants), on two afternoons each week. The sessions are held in the Art Room at Baler Primary School weeks 2-9 each term. The sessions operate directly after school on Tuesday and Thursday from 2.30 to 4pm.
Sessions start with a healthy snack, catch-up and a debrief on the student’s day at school. Students then take part in a range of activities which include working independently to complete tasks from their classroom programs, receiving support from a tutor to improve or practice literacy and numeracy skills and/or participate in a range of activities that students find interesting, fun and engaging. Students also take part in excursions and have visitors to the program who provide enriching opportunities.
Baler Learning Follow the Dream support students holistically through providing activities and opportunities for that incorporate the five key program elements: Academic, Experiences, Models of Success, Belonging and General Capabilities.
