The Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation is pleased to continue providing our popular after school Baler Learning Club in 2023. The program is funded through the generous support of BHP and supported by Baler Primary School.
Polly Farmer Learning Clubs provide Indigenous students from Year 1 to 6 with after school literacy and numeracy support and enrichment activities as well as fun extension activities across learning areas in a safe and positive environment. The program helps students develop skills and understandings, contributes to building good study habits and encourages positive attitudes to school and learning.
Students opportunity to work in small groups with skilled tutors (teachers or teacher assistants), on two afternoons each week. The sessions are held in the Library at Baler Primary School weeks 2-9 each term. The sessions operate directly after school on Monday and Wednesday from 2:20 to 4:30pm.
Learning Club sessions start with a healthy snack, catch-up and debrief on the student’s day at school with tutor staff. Students then take part in a range of activities that could include working independently to complete tasks from their classroom programs, receiving support from a tutor to improve or practice literacy and numeracy skills and/or participate in a range of activities that students find interesting, fun and engaging. Students also regularly take part in excursions or have visitors to the program who provide enriching opportunities.
